City of Coalinga representatives recently traveled to Washington, D.C. to advocate for the community’s priorities and strengthen relationships with federal agencies and elected officials.

During the visit, City officials met with representatives from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Reclamation, and members of California’s congressional delegation. Discussions focused on key issues impacting Coalinga, including airport infrastructure improvements, water supply and infrastructure challenges, public safety resources, transportation funding, and economic development opportunities.

The meetings provided an opportunity to highlight the unique challenges facing rural Central Valley communities while positioning the City for future federal funding opportunities. Federal agencies indicated that several grant programs may be available in the coming months, particularly in areas such as public safety, transportation, water infrastructure, and aviation.

Mayor Vosburg noted that maintaining strong relationships at the federal level is critical to advancing local projects and securing funding for infrastructure improvements.

“Advocating directly with federal partners ensures that Coalinga’s needs are understood and considered as funding opportunities become available,” Vosburg said. “These efforts are essential to supporting our long-term infrastructure, public safety, and economic development goals.”

The City will continue to monitor upcoming funding opportunities and work with federal partners to pursue resources that benefit the community.
