FRESNO 198 CULVERT REHABILITAION
PREOJECT TO RESUME MONDAY, MAY 18TH
FRESNO COUNTY − The Department of Transportation, (Caltrans), in cooperation with Teichert Construction, announces the Fresno 198 Culvert Rehabilitation Project to resume Monday, May 18th.
The following will occur beginning May 18th:
• The contractor will resume rehabilitating the remaining culverts where they left off prior to the winter suspension between Parkfield Junction and Monterey County line.
o To rehabilitate the remaining culverts, the contractor will begin working Monday through Friday from 6:00am to 6:00pm.
• During the rehabilitation of the culverts, the contractor will be utilizing one-way reversing traffic control along State Route 198.
o During this time the contractor will use flagging personnel through the work zone. Commuters are reminded to obey flagging personnel and pay close attention to road construction vehicles and personnel.
Closures may continue for longer periods of time, if necessary, due to delays caused by weather or uncontrollable events that may occur.
Caltrans Construction personnel remind you to drive with extra care and allow additional travel time while travelling in the construction area. Please be alert for Road Construction Personnel and “Slow for the Cone Zone.”
COALINGA STATE ROUTE 33 PAVEMENT
REHABILITATION PROJECT SCHEDULE UPDATE
COALINGA —The Department of Transportation (Caltrans), in cooperation with Cal Valley Construction, announces the following schedule update in part of the State Route 33 Pavement Rehabilitation Project in the City of Coalinga.
The following will occur Monday through Friday from 6:00am to 6:00pm, beginning May 15th:
• The contractor will begin the rehabilitation of the southbound lanes of Elm Avenue (State Route 33) between the Los Gatos Creek Bridge and 5th Street by excavating and repaving the existing roadway.
• To perform the roadway rehabilitation, temporary striping will shift traffic along southbound Elm Avenue (State Route 33) to the northbound lanes of Elm Avenue (State Route 33) preceding the work area in both directions.
• Intersections of Elm Avenue (State Route 33) will remain open at:
o Cambridge Avenue, Walnut Avenue, Cherry Lane, 3rd Street, and 5th Street
o The traffic signal lights at these intersections will be placed on flashing red and will act as 4-way stop intersections to facilitate traffic flow during this time.
• Signed temporary detours will be in place to facilitate crossings at the open intersections to safely navigate around the work zones (see map on attachment).
• Work on this phase of construction is projected to be completed by mid-June.
Closures may continue for longer periods of time, if necessary, due to delays caused by weather or uncontrollable events that may occur.

• To perform the curb ramp upgrades, shoulder closures will be present along Polk Street (State Route 33) near the vicinity of the work areas.
o The closures will be in effect only during the contractor’s scheduled working hours each day.
• Signed temporary pedestrian access routes will be in place in the vicinity of the ramps being worked on so that pedestrians can safely navigate around the work zones (see map on following pages).
• Work zones will be delineated and closed with signage after working hours to clearly identify the area and maintain public safety.
• After the concrete sidewalks, curb ramps, and driveways have been poured, the work zones will remain closed for one additional day to allow the concrete to properly cure.

• Northbound Elm Avenue (State Route 33) will continue to be reduced to one lane between Phelps Avenue and Cherry Lane to complete the first segment of curb ramps currently being repaired.
• Southbound Elm Avenue (State Route 33) will also be reduced to one lane between Cherry Lane and 5th Street to begin work on the second segment of curbs ramps to be repaired.
o The lane reductions will be in effect only during the contractor’s scheduled working hours each day.
• Signed temporary pedestrian access routes will be in place in the vicinity of the ramps being worked on so that pedestrians can safely navigate around the work zones (see maps on attachment).

• During the first phase of the rehabilitation project, the contractor will begin by installing new curb ramps and upgrading/repairing the existing curb ramps within the project limits.
• The contractor will begin construction of the sidewalks, curb ramps, and driveways along the east side of Elm Avenue (State Route 33) at Phelps Avenue and will proceed south within the project limits.
• To begin work on the first segment of curb ramps, Elm Avenue (State Route 33) will be reduced to one lane between Cherry Lane and Phelps Avenue.
o The lane reduction will be in effect only during the contractor’s scheduled working hours each day.
• Signed temporary pedestrian access routes will be in place in the vicinity of the ramps being worked on so that pedestrians can safely navigate around the work zones (see map on following page).

CALTRANS TO REHABILITATE AND
ENHANCE STATE ROUTE 33 IN COALINGA
COALINGA —The Department of Transportation (Caltrans), in cooperation with Cal Valley Construction, announces the State Route 33 Pavement Rehabilitation Project in the city of Coalinga to begin late February 2026.
This project proposes to rehabilitate the existing 2-lane of asphalt concrete pavement from Merced Avenue to west of Hayes Street, and existing 4-lane of asphalt concrete pavement from Elm Avenue and 5th Street to Los Gatos Creek South Channel Bridge. In addition, the project proposes installing complete streets elements.
The complete street elements would include 15 new curb ramps, 47 upgrade/repair curb ramps, a road reduction (road diet) along Elm Avenue, and bike lanes from the intersection of Polk Street and Thompson Street to the intersection of Elm Avenue and Cambridge Avenue. The project also proposes to install a center-turn lane (two-way left-turn lane) on Elm Avenue, on-street parking, new sidewalks to eliminate gaps, bike parking, enhanced crosswalks, and rectangular rapid flashing beacons at State Route 33 intersections with Garfield Street, Hachman Street, Warthan Street, Ivy Street, Van Ness Avenue, and Walnut Street.
